The chemical potential is

μ=(GN)T,p.\mu=\left(\frac{\partial G}{\partial N}\right)_{T,p}.

Equilibrium

Particle exchange equilibrates chemical potentials. If two systems can exchange particles, equilibrium requires their μ\mu values to match.
