The Poynting vector is

\mathbf S=\frac{1}{\mu_0}\mathbf E\times\mathbf B.

It points in the direction of electromagnetic energy flow.

For a plane electromagnetic wave, $\mathbf E$ , $\mathbf B$ , and $\mathbf S$ are mutually perpendicular.
